CHASED BY THE STORM

This was a very interesting night at Everglades National Park. We drove to the park to photograph the Milky Way but didn't realize that despite the weather reports, intense storms were brewing that night. I did manage to get a couple of Milky Way pics before the storm moved in. It was a strong thunderstorm with a few lightning strikes that were just too close for comfort. I would normally stay and try to get some unique shots but this storm was bad. We proceeded to drive out of the park at the maximum the speed limit would allow which was 55 mph. The storm was hot on our heels but we got far enough ahead of it to stop for a moment so I could set up a few shots. The storm was approaching quickly and I only had a few minutes as I could hear the wind starting to howl though the trees and the thunder getting ever closer. In this photo I am facing east and the storm is rapidly approaching from the south with the clouds illuminated by continuous lightning coming from behind the clouds. We outran the storm but it definitely cut our night short.
