THE MUSHROOM GROTTO
A group of mushrooms known as Panellus stipticus or more commonly, the Bitter Oyster, grow on the side of a tree stump in South Florida. One of the unique properties of this mushroom is that some of them are bioluminescent particularly those found along the East Coast of North America. There's something almost magical about photographing mushrooms, when you get down into their world through the lens it's like visiting a surreal realm straight out of a fairy tale.
My name is Mark Andrew Thomas and I'm a photographer and filmmaker currently residing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I grew up in Florida right next to the Everglades and although I photograph a wide variety of subjects and locations, the Florida Everglades will always be my first love.
