In much the same way as Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World does, Spaceship Earth greets visitors near the entrance to Epcot and is the centerpiece of the park. Epcot stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow and is Disney's vision of our past leading up to the present and beyond into the future.
