DON'T FEED THE ALLIGATOR
A large adult male alligator surfaces inches from my camera in the Florida Everglades. Alligators have been a part of life since childhood and they are a source of endless fascination for me. The title of this piece is tongue in cheek but people feeding alligators is a problem here in Florida and is actually illegal. Alligators normally don't interact with humans except when they have been fed. When this happens they associate people with food and that is what causes problems. Alligators rarely attack people and will usually avoid human contact if possible.
My name is Mark Andrew Thomas and I'm a photographer and filmmaker currently residing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I grew up in Florida right next to the Everglades and although I photograph a wide variety of subjects and locations, the Florida Everglades will always be my first love.
