A closeup portrait of a Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States. When you see a Bald Eagle in person you realize why it commands so much respect. The power, the stature, and the beauty of this magnificent bird can only be truly appreciated when you see one up close. Many people make the mistake of thinking that eagles are similar in size to hawks but Bald Eagles are enormous and powerful birds. They can weigh as much as 18 pounds (compared to the hawks 8 pound average) with a wingspan of up to 7.5 feet. Not to mention they come equipped with long razor sharp talons that can do some serious damage...even to a human.

My name is Mark Andrew Thomas and I'm a photographer and filmmaker currently residing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I grew up in Florida right next to the Everglades and although I photograph a wide variety of subjects and locations, the Florida Everglades will always be my first love.
