THE RIVER ALLIGATOR
A young American Alligator begins it's busy day by basking in the warm glow of the rising sun along the Saint Lucie River. This river is 35 miles long and passes through Saint Lucie and Martin Counties before flowing into the Indian River Lagoon which leads to the Atlantic Ocean. If you go kayaking along the Saint Lucie River you'll see an abundance of wildlife including alligators, birds, turtles, manatees and even the occasional dolphin. Birds I've seen along the river include Great White Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Roseate Spoonbills, Sandhill Cranes, Barred Owls, Kingfishers, and Osprey among others.
