Description
THE MAI KAI RESTAURANT AND POLYNESIAN SHOW
Tiki torches glow as a waterfall cascades in front of the historic Mai Kai restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. The Mai Kai has been open since 1956 and is a South Florida landmark attracting thousands of locals and tourist each year. It is world famous for it's nightly Islander Revue and Polynesian Show. The owner, Mireille Thornton, was originally one of the dancers when the Mai Kai first opened. She later went on to marry the owner, Bob Thornton, and took the reins when he passed away in 1989. She is still very involved in the restaurant although her two sons now handle most of the business affairs. She still travels to the islands each year to get new ideas for the shows and is also at every audition.
