Description
FORT LAUDERDALE SWING BRIDGE
One of the oldest structures in Fort Lauderdale is the Snow-Reed Swing Bridge in the historic neighborhood of Sailboat Bend near Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The bridge connects the Sailboat Bend and Riverside Park neighborhoods. It was named after mayors R.G. Snow and Will Reed who planned the construction of the bridge. It is the oldest bridge in Fort Lauderdale and the only working swing bridge that remains in South Florida. The bridge was constructed in 1924 through 1925 and was declared a historical landmark in 1989. This bridge, and other historical structures, are a fascinating glimpse into the Old Fort Lauderdale of yesteryear.
