The Milky Way in all it's splendor glows brightly in the skies above Big Cypress National Preserve. This was photographed during an overnight camping trip and night hike. In 2016 Big Cypress National Preserve was recognized as an official Dark Sky Place by the International Dark Sky Association. It is the first NPS unit in the United States east of Colorado to earn this distinction and one of only two in Florida. The Dark Sky designation is given by the International Dark Sky Association when certain criteria are met.
